The Sheila Poole 10k goes in Yarmouth on Saturday.
It’s been 20 years since Poole passed away of cancer, and the race was re-named in her honour.
Her sister Nancy Bishara is co-director of the race.
Bishara says Poole would be proud of how the race has grown.
“She tried to encourage young runners, because she coached a cross-country team at Maple Grove before she passed away. I think she would be happy to see new people trying to run and learning to love and appreciate it.”
She says there will be special prizes given away in honour of the 20th Sheila Poole race, but she doesn’t want to give too much away.
The 10k begins on Water Street near Rudders at 9am, registration starts Saturday morning at 7:30.
Bishara says she’d love to see 150-200 people come out to run.
