Airbnb has identified Yarmouth as a trending ‘astro-tourism destination.’
North America’s first ‘Starlight Destination’ is right here in Yarmouth with the Deep Sky Eye Observatory in Quinan and stargazing at the Trout Point Lodge.
The executive director of the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores Tourism Association says this is great news for our region.
Neil MacKenzie says they try to promote different experiences in the area.
“Stargazing and being an astro-tourism destination enables us to do that. We also promote our Acadian culture and our seafaring heritage. We’re also looking to develop some Mi’kmaq experiences as well.”
MacKenzie says the Airbnb identification is a clear sign that YASTA’s marketing is heading in the right direction and having an impact.
He says Airbnb is seeing strong growth in travel linked to astronomical events and destinations known for startgazing, including last year’s solar eclipse which saw 50,000 Airbnb guests from 26 countries travel to the US.
