A summer tradition in Yarmouth is moving from it’s usual location of the Yarmouth South Playground.
The program offered by Yarmouth Recreation is free for youth and offers a number of activities.
But recreation director Frank Grant says they’ve had difficulty delivering the program this year due to behaviour issues from a few youth hanging out at the park.
“Because of the other distractions around the park, we’re having a hard time with staff being able to deliver those program to children safely.”
Grant says he and Misty James, the community recreation coordinator discussed this, and thought the best option would be to move the program to the former South Centennial School.
He says there will be a registration list, and the program will still be free of charge.
Grant says it’s disappointing, but the move will ensure a safe environment for the children as a home base.
“This will re-focus the activities that we’re planning in a new environment.”
