Former Yarmouthian and NHLer Jody Shelley is in our region once again for his annual golf tournament.
River Hills in Clyde River is hosting the Jody Shelley Golf Fore Health Tournament today.
Every year, money is raised for the Yarmouth Hospital Foundation.
Mary Surette, development officer for the foundation says it means a lot to see Shelley come back every year.
“The fact that he takes the time out of his busy schedule to come back to Nova Scotia every year, and he feels that his home roots are here. It’s overwhelming to us, and it means a lot that he comes back every year.”
32 teams are taking part this year.
Surette says they hope to raise $35,000 toward the purchase of an ultrasound for the diagnostic imaging department at the hospital.
Shelley played 627 NHL games over 13 seasons with the Blue Jackets, Rangers, Sharks and Flyers.
He currently works as a colour commentator for the Blue Jackets television broadcasts.
