The third annual Mariners Ribfest was held at Marginal Wharf on the Yarmouth waterfront over the weekend.
While Friday night was shut down due to rain and dangerous conditions, beautiful weather on the weekend saw hundreds flock to the area to get some tasty ribs, and enjoy entertainment.
Organizer Keith Condon says the final numbers aren’t out yet, but the wiped out Friday night will certainly play a role.
“The water was starting to build up in front of the trucks, and the ribbers were standing in pools of water. A lot of the patrons were as well. We were nervous, because we had lightning, and there was a lot of power going to those trucks. We had to make the difficult decision to shut it down.”
He says the carnival was very busy, and people enjoyed the activities.
He thanked the 140 plus volunteers that helped out, which included many community organizations.
Next year, Condon says he wants to move the event to Mariners Centre, because the lot at Marginal Wharf is too narrow.
“This lot is too small. As you could tell from the rain, it has its downfalls. You wouldn’t have that problem if we were at a better venue, like Mariners Centre.”
