(file photo)Where would you go to find ‘lobster art’ ?
Well, the Lobster Capital of Canada of course, the Municipality of Barrington.
The ten, two-metre-tall artistically decorated sculptures were commissioned last year as a Canada 150 Heritage project.
Tourism and Community Development Officer Suzy Atwood says they’ve become a real attraction and sought out by tourists and residents.
But some admirers get a little carried away.
Atwood says they’ve had to take to social media to advise folks not to stand and climb on the lobster sculptures.
“They are art work and not playground equipment. (she laughs). The tail looks like a great seat, but to make them last longer, we’re asking people not to sit on them.”
She says the sculptures will be taken down in the fall and placed inside.
“They’ll be placed in places like a local business or library or arena.”
The sculptures are placed in locations from the Baccaro Point Lighthouse, to Shag Harbour to The Hawk.
