The Nature Conservancy of Canada is holding its second annual cross-country Small Acts of Conservation challenge.
It consists of a checklist of small-scale, individual actions designed to benefit people and communities along with wildlife and their habitats.
Spokesperson Andrew Holland says it encourages people to connect with nature.
“It’s aimed at getting people to think locally. To get people to do things on their own property or neighbourhood. It could things like planting native trees, getting rid of invasive species, installing rain barrels or building bat boxes or bee hotels.”
Holland says the aim is to get people outside, enjoy nature and understand the threats like global warming, climate change and coastal erosion.
He says people are encouraged to share their acts on social media using the hashtag SmallActs.
The campaign ends August 12, and a random draw for a $1,000 nature prize pack will be made on August 13.
