Work is already underway for a major renovation project at Beacon Church in Yarmouth.
The focus is on the kitchen.
MLA Zach Churchill recenty announced the province would provide $17,450.
Beacon Church volunteer Stephen Sollows says it was built in 1967.
“The kitchen that is in there right now was installed when the church was built. So things such as the dishwasher are outdated. we’re also enlarger it. we’ve already taken out a wall.”
He says last year over 59 groups and individuals rented or used space in the church.
There are also many support groups that use the building.
“We had a day care, one of the schools uses five of the classrooms. Scouts and Guides, dance classes, classes to teach people how to play bridge. Our ministry has become the community because we recognize there are a a lot of user groups that require space and if we can fit them in, we’re happy to do so.”
