You could call it, a diamond on the diamond.
Two members of the Rodd Grand Slammers co-ed slo-pitch baseball team have been together for nine years, and share a love of the game.
Alex White says he and Britini Rennehan never miss a night of baseball, and they’ve been on the same team for seven years.
During the SPN tournament over the weekend in Yarmouth, White proposed to Rennehan on the ballfield after a game.
White says he had opportunities to propose to her in private.
“But a lot of them wouldn’t have included my family, her family and a lot of our friends. I thought it was good to share it with all of them.”
Rennehan says she was completely in the dark.
“All of a sudden, everyone said ‘Britini, turn around’ and I said ok we’re taking a team picture with our names on the back. I turned around and there he was on one knee. The atmosphere was amazing. There were a lot of happy tears, even from other teams there watching. There wasn’t a dry eye on the field. There was music going and champagne popping, it was definitely something to remember.”
White adds, it was a super hard secret to keep, but it was well worth it.
He has advice for those planning a public proposal.
“Make sure it’s with the right person, and make sure you tell the right people, because you don’t want anyone to blab on you.”
The newly engaged couple are looking at next September for their wedding date.
