The Warden of the Municipality of Barrington says he’s pleased the government has determined what is behind some of the problems with the Cape Sable Island Causeway.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal determined that time and tides forced the underneath of the causeway to shift, forming bumps and dips on the surface.
According to Argyle-Barrington MLA Chris d’Entremont, an internal document says work will be done to fix the surface and there’s no concern expressed by TIR engineers.
“They’re going to maintain and watch the causeway and they’ll maintain the top as times goes on. I’m gad they finally listened to the concerns.”
But Warden Eddie Nickerson says a more serious problem has become of greater concern to council and many residents.
“The buildup of sand and the sand spit coming out. What will happen to the causeway as that sand continues to build up. We’re concerned it will plug it up even more.”
He says the sand comes from the Northeast Point Beach.
