The federal government is planning to severely restrict most forms of marketing for prescription opioids.
This comes after Federal Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor says almost 4,000 Canadians died of apparent opioid related overdose last year.
The public can submit their views on opioid marketing until July 18th on Health Canada’s website.
Until new regulations are in place, Petitpas Taylor is asking opioid manufacturers and distributors to voluntarily pulled marketing activities.
She also announced five million dollars in funding over five years for a dedicataed marketing compliance and enforcement team.
