The Humboldt Bronco’s play-by-play announcer will be be remembered this fall at NSCC.
Tyler Bieber was one of 16 people killed when the team’s bus collided with a transport truck.
Members of the press covering the Maritime Hockey League wanted to do something to help honour Bieber.
Pictou County Weeks Crushers play-by-play announcer Michael Petter says they decided to set up a bursary in Beiber’s name.
“Everybody got on board right away, thought it was a great idea. So we put the word out and in total, raised a thousand dollars, including $150 from the college itself.”
Petter says Beiber’s death resonated with announcers across the MHL.
“That really hit home for me because as the play-by-play voice of the Crushers I do a lot of driving around, going to games in rinks all over the Maritime Hockey League. The idea of, there but for the grace of god go I.”
The money will be awarded this fall to a student enrolled in the Radio Television Journalism program with an interest in sports broadcasting.
I think we’ll all be Broncos fans next year. #HumboldtStrong https://t.co/YCOVHPq5yT
