Tourism season is upon us once again. Bay Ferries vessel ‘the CAT’ is set to make her first trip from Yarmouth to Portland, Maine on Friday. It’s the third straight year of operations for the CAT. Last year, engine problems led to fewer crossings. After a winter in dry dock in South Carolina, those problems have been rectified, and the CEO of Bay Ferries is excited about the new season. We speak with Mark MacDonald.
A couple of running events are hitting the Yarmouth area this month. The Yarmouth ‘Bean There, Ran That’ Marathon will take place next Sunday, June 10th. It’s a fundraiser for the kidney dialysis unit at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, and a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. Then, you can ‘run the lake for goodness sake’ on June 24th with the 6.7 kilometre ‘Lake Run’ around Doctors Lake. That event is a fundraiser for the Yarmouth Y Whitecaps. We speak with the organizer of both of these events, Bobby-Lou Reardon.
And, lades and gentlemen, start your engines! The season for the Southwest Stock Car Association begins next Sunday. Once again, the four cylinder and V8 classes return with lots more at Lake Doucette Motor Speedway. We speak with SWSCA President Kyle Hines on what to expect this season.
