The Town of Yarmouth will be presented with a revised pricing structure for fire dispatch service.
CAO’s from municipal units served by the Yarmouth Fire Department dispatchers have been meeting to try and come up with a resolution to keep the service.
The Town of Yarmouth plans to eliminate the four dispatcher positions due what is claims is an unfair funding model in which the town pays the lion’s share.
The CAO of the Municipality of Argyle, Alain Muise, says the municipal units will consider what the pricing model will look like.
“That work is ongoing. The town will be receiving, I guess, an offer, from those that are interested in continuing with that service, to see if that cost structure makes sense to them. The information will be distributed, probably this week and we’ll see how quickly the municipal units and the Town of Yarmouth will respond.”
The units include the municipalities of Yarmouth, Clare, Shelburne, Barrington and the towns of Shelburne and Clark’s Harbour.
He says it’s up to each individual council whether or not they approve a final plan, but all have been part of the discussions.
Muise says volunteer fire chiefs in the Municipality of Argyle made it clear that they support existing dispatch services.
