Department of Fisheries and Oceans officers conducted a large seizure of fish in our area last week.
Over 2,500 pounds of halibut were seized from a local fish buyer in Yarmouth County on May 14th.
Chris Sperry, acting area chief of conservation and protection for Southwest Nova Scotia says the halibut was valued at over $18,000.
“They were seized around the illegal buying and selling and possessing of fish, contravention to Section 33 of the Fisheries Act, and the sale of fish without authorization, contravention to Section 35.2 of fishery general regulations.”
Sperry says the investigation is on-going and could not provide further details.
He says the fishery officers were from Meteghan and Tusket.
