Digby’s Wharf Rat Rally continues to grow.
The province conducted an economic impact study of the 13th annual motorcycle rally last summer.
Over 8,000 unique motorcycles were in attendance, up from over 7,200 in 2011, and the bikes came into the Town of Digby 3.1 times each day of the event.
The boost to Nova Scotia’s economy was measured at $4.9 million, up from $4.2 million six years earlier.
Vice-chair of the rally Wayne MacDonald says he’s not surprised.
“That’s money that ordinarily wouldn’t be in Nova Scotia, if it wasn’t for our event. We’re delighted with it. It gives us confidence in knowing that we have a significant event in the province of Nova Scotia.”
MacDonald says they are thrilled that the province was on-board to do the independent study.
The 14th annual Wharf Rat Rally is scheduled for August 29th-September 2nd.
