The site of a devastating fire on King Street in Bridgewater is up for sale.
The town posted on its Facebook page the properties at 527, 531, and 533 King Street are for sale by a private owner while the neighbouring property at 535 King Street is up for tax sale.
Bridgewater Mayor David Mitchell says the town wouldn’t normally involve itself in a private sale but has recently taken on some of the responsible for economic development.
“Although it’s private property, it doesn’t mean we don’t have a role to play to try and attract a developer to put something there.”
Mitchell says they want to bring the right kind of development to the area.
“It’s a fairly large hole in our downtown core, it’s almost like a missing tooth. We want to do what we can to attract someone, who has a vision, who can put something in and fill that in.”
The mayor says this is the first in what he hopes will be a series of efforts to attract developers to Bridgewater.
