A weekly draw in Yarmouth is gaining momentum.
The Tri-Service Chase the Ace event has been going every Tuesday night since September at the Yarmouth Lions Hall on Parade Street.
The jackpot is now over $100,000 with 19 cards left in the deck.
The draw is being organized by three organizations, the Lions Club, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 and the Knights of Columbus.
K of C member Phillipe Doucet talks about how the money is organized.
“20 percent of weekly sales go to the ticket that’s drawn that week as a consolation prize, 30 percent goes to build the jackpot, and 50 percent goes to the clubs.”
The profits will be divided among the three organizations.
“Most of our buildings need some work, and there are many charitable causes that we support in the community, and we’ll be able to give more to those organizations.”
Doucet says it’s been great working with the Lions Club and the Legion on this initiative, and he hopes to see the draw continue to grow.
He says last week, over $19,000 worth of tickets were sold.
That compared to September, the first week of the event, when just $3,000 worth of tickets were sold.
