Government will not apologize to the 19 year old accused of a privacy breach of Nova Scotia’s Freedom Of Information site.
On Monday, Halifax Police said the teen never intended to commit a crime when he downloaded approximately 7,000 files from government site.
The youth’s family home was searched by a large force of police and his family members were detained while officers looked for evidence.
Premier Stephen McNeil says once government discovered the files were missing, they forwarded the corresponding IP address along to police.
“We knew private information was taken from our system. The responsible thing for government to do then is reach out to the law enforcement agency. They then, proceed [with] their process. What they did after that, they need to explain, not us.”
McNeil says government officials followed proper protocol and would do so again.
