Yesterday, government announced that $15 million will be spent on inclusive education supports in the province this fall.
In the Tri-Counties and the South Shore, this includes a combined 20 student and classroom support positions, 12 specialist teachers, two parent navigators and a shared student health nurse.
Education Minister Zach Churchill says inclusive education is a priority for government.
“The system has not changed in 20 years. These supports coming in September won’t change the world overnight for everybody, but as we add additional supports year-after-year, I know this will have a positive impact.”
For the CSAP, ten student and classroom support positions will open along with eight specialist teachers and a school psychologist and speech language pathologist.
Also, the hiring of 57 new high school teachers through the Council to Improve Classroom Conditions was announced yesterday.
Churchill says the teachers will head to rural areas based on greatest need.
