A boat capsized in Port Medway yesterday, leading to a search by air, land, and sea.
Major Mark Norris with the Joint Rescue Command Centre (JRCC), says a call to 911 went out yesterday morning after a citizen spotted an overturned vessel as well as a possible person in the water.
According to Dahl Dispatch that call occurred around 10:40 a.m.
Multiple agencies were called in to search and an investigation between JRCC and RCMP determined two people had been in the boat at the time.
Norris says a woman was taken out of the water near the shore and a man was found later.
“Eventually we did recover the second person that was on board, unfortunately both people were unresponsive,” says Norris.
Both were taken to hospital by EHS.
“We reduced the search after determining they were the only occupants.”
The search ended shortly after 2 pm.
Ground Search and Rescue, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, RCMP, DND air craft, Coast Guard, and local fire departments all responded.
