Discussions regarding creating a cost-effective and equitable policing model by municipal units continues in Shelburne County.
It started with a proposal being considered by the town of Shelburne to have officers from Bridgewater take over policing, but that was just one idea.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says the discussion has taken on a broader, regional approach, directing town staff to send out letters to other municipal units.
“In Shelburne Country, Queens County and Lunenburg, and see if there is any interest in discussing a regional police force for the south shore.”
Mattatall also says a proposal from Bridgewater to police the town of Shelburne is still on the table, but for now, the RCMP will continue its service.
She says that along with the council, she wants to ensure taxpayers of the town of Shelburne don’t pay more than their fair share of policing costs.
Mayor Mattatall says all options continue to remain on the table.
