Halifax will be hopping this weekend as the city welcomes the 30th Annual East Coast Music Awards.
The event kicks off with a free concert on the waterfront tonight.
The awards show gets underway tomorrow night.
Lunenburg natives Joel and Bill Plaskett are up for four awards including entertainer, songwriter, folk recording and album of the year.
Spincount out of Bridgewater is up for Company of the Year while the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival is nominated in the Event of the Year category.
ECMA Executive Director Andy MacLean says having this much talent in one place is something that shouldn’t be missed.
“Give the Netflix a rest for a night and try going out and seeing a band. It’s something that more and more people should really be doing and there’s a great opportunity for the next five days to do that.”
MacLean says while the event celebrates the fine work east coast artists are doing, it’s also a great business opportunity.
“It’s really important for the artist to come and be in one place. Bring the concentration of talent. Bring the people who are looking for the talent, and make the business happen.”
Showcases will run through Sunday.
