The NSCC Burridge Social Services class made a huge donation to the Yarmouth Food Bank yesterday.
The class was granted $2,000 for their community project through the student association and the ‘Difference Dollars’ initiative through NSCC.
They partnered with many organizations through town, and in total raised $7,000 worth of product.
Teacher David Hurlburt says they’ve been working on this for a few months.
“It’s awesome, You start from a brainstorming process, and then you come up with the final product. It’s very rewarding. It’s a lot of great learning that comes from outside the classroom as well.”
Hurlburt says yesterday was only the first delivery, as the food bank didn’t have the storage room for all the product.
Reverend Bill Newell with the food bank says this donation is a real boost for them and their clients
“If we have the products we give them out, but we don’t always go out and buy them. Hopefully this will make life a little better for our clients.”
