Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has written to a class at Yarmouth Central School.
The letter showed up on teacher Glenn Bourque’s desk on Friday afternoon.
Bourque’s Grade 3/4 class covered the Tragically Hip song ‘Ahead By A Century’ after the death of Gord Downie.
The track found its way to the Prime Minister.

Bourque says he was in shock.
“When I opened it, I read Dear. Mr Bourque and students, and I saw the signature, and I was just speechless. For about an hour afterwards, I just couldn’t believe what happened.”
In the letter, Trudeau thanked the class for covering the song, calling it a ‘wonderful tribute to a wonderful man.’
Trudeau goes on to say he is glad to know Gord continues to be a source of inspiration for others, just as he had always been for him.
Bourque says the students were excited to learn the news as well.
“The Prime Minister, he wrote us! It’s quite an accomplishment to be recognized by him, and for him to take the time out of his schedule to send such a beautiful and wonderfully written letter, it’s something else.”
Bourque says he thanks his friend Darren DeWolfe for helping him record the song, his friend John Doucet for encouraging him to send it to Trudeau, and Natasha York-Phillips for getting the song to the Prime Minister.
Most of all, he thanks his students for their wonderful voices.
