Christmas bells are quiet in Queens County.
That’s because the Liverpool Salvation Army desperately needs volunteers to help with their Christmas Kettle Campaign.
Organizer Barb Redmond says due to some unfortunate circumstances, their donations dropped below $10,000 last year.
“That means that a lot of people, with a lot of great needs, are going to be turned away. So therefore, you will have people being cold and hungry, and that is the reality of the situation.”
Redmond is concerned if they don’t get a few more people to step up, the organization may not meet their goal.
“If the kettles are unmanned, then there’s no money coming in, and that money is drastically needed for the needy in our community.”
Redmond says they want to raise $21,000 this year, which is more in line with what they would normally take in.
She says the money they collect helps people in the community throughout the year.
