The start of the lobster fishery off southwestern Nova Scotia has been delayed.
Normally Dumping Day would be this Monday, however the weather forecast isn’t looking good.
This morning conference calls were held among LFA’s 33 and 34, DFO and Environment Canada.
Dwayne Surette with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Yarmouth says the safety of fishermen comes first.
“In both districts we postponed the fishery until Tuesday. We’re going to have another weather call tomorrow morning (8am for LFA 34, 8:30am for LFA 33) to decide if Tuesday is going to be the best option.”
Surette says Environment Canada is forecasting a decent start to Tuesday morning.
“Winds increasing late in the day (Tuesday) with possible gales at night. It’s also giving a windy day for Wednesday so we’ll have to wait and see.”
