The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners return to a place they’ve been just once over the last month, home.
The Mariners entertain the Pictou County Weeks Crushers tonight and host the St. Stephen Aces tomorrow night.
Head Coach and General Manager Laurie Barron says his team fought some tough battles on the road, including last weekend in New Brunswick where they went 1-2.
He says it’s nice to return home for the first time since November 10th.
“We have had good luck at home this year. It’s nice to be back, it’s been a while. We hope our fans are excited and ready to go. We’re looking forward to getting back on a winning streak at home.”
The Mariners have a record of 9-1 on home ice this season, and sit in second place in the Eastlink South Division with a 14-6 record, four points behind the South Shore Lumberjacks.
Tonight’s opponents, the Crushers have eight wins and sit on the outside of the division playoff picture in fifth place.
Barron says Pictou is still a very dangerous team and can’t be taken lightly.
“They’re a good hockey club. Anytime you have players like (Michael) Dill and (Dylan) Riley, they’re dangerous. I watched their game against Miramichi last night, they are very dangerous from the blueline in. They can’t be taken lightly that’s for sure.”
Tomorrow night, the Mariners remain home to tangle with the St. Stephen Aces for their fourth and final meeting.
The Mariners have taken two of three against the Aces.
