The chair of the Commission on Inclusive Education says they want to get peoples ideas and learn from their experiences.
They will be holding a public workshop from 6:30 to 9pm this evening at YCMHS.
Dr. Sarah Shea says the commission wants to hear what changes parents, teachers and others think need to be made to Nova Scotia’s
current policies on inclusive education.
She says their mandate is to come up with recommendations on how inclusive education should look in the province, to work on a new model and to come up with a strategic plan for implementation by the province.
“And we can’t do that without hearing from people about what’s working and what’s not working and what people’s priorities are, so our process tonight is to hear from people about that. “
Shay says workshop will begin with a brief presentation about the commission and what it’s goals are and about the public engagement process.
“The format is set up so that we can, as much as possible, pull people in, get their ideas and learn from their experiences. Folks will be seated at tables and we’ve got some guided questions that we want them to work through and give us some feed back. it’s very interactive and we will be collecting all the information from the folks who engage with us.”
The commission wants to respect the privacy of participants so there is no media access during the workshops.
