The Mukashi School of Karate is celebrating a big anniversary this weekend.
It’s been 40 years since the club was first established by Sensei Paulette Landry as the Amirault’s Hill Karate Club.
The dojo is now located in Brooklyn on the Hardscratch Road.
Sensei Milton Bourque has been there since the beginning.
He says lots of activities are planned tomorrow, including a clinic at NSCC Burridge Campus through the day.
“The head Sensei for our style of Karate is coming down from Halifax for the sessions, then we’ll have a tour of the dojo in Brooklyn, then a banquet at Rudders in the evening to celebrate Sensei Landry and all the work she’s done.”
Bourque says a lot of faces have come and gone over 40 years, and he hopes to see many of them tomorrow.
He says the club is doing well, with 25-30 students currently enrolled.
Bourque says some students have competed internationally, including in Japan over the summer.
