A military plane had to make an emergency landing at the Yarmouth International Airport today.
At around 2pm, a CP-140 Aurora aircraft was conducting a training exercise in the area.
13 crewmembers were on board, when they noticed a smell of smoke in the cockpit.
Airport General Manager Mike Fields says the crew declared an emergency.
“They contacted Moncton Air Traffic Control, who then contacted the Yarmouth Airport. We initiated our emergency response action plan, first responders attended the scene, the crew landed safely and exited the aircraft safely.”
There were no injuries.
It has not yet been determined where the smell of smoke came from.
The crew on the ground in Yarmouth will be communicating with technicians in Greenwood to determine if there is a need for them to look at the plane.
The aircraft will stay in Yarmouth until the problem is solved.

Fields says the airport upgraded their emergency response action plan over three years ago, and have practiced many times for this type of event.
“At that time, we did a lot of tabletop exercises to get our staff trained. In addition, we did exercises with RCMP, ambulance and fire staff, and we did a live exercise two years ago in preparation for this type of event.”
Fields says protocol was correctly followed today due to all the practice they’ve had in the past.
