The Yarmouth Junior A Mariners six-game win streak is over.
Mateo Short burned his former team with a hat-trick, helping the South Shore Lumberjacks to a 7-4 victory over Yarmouth Saturday night in Bridgewater.
Matt Smith scored twice on the powerplay, Aaron Maillet and Keegan Gauthier also scored, and Leif Hertz took the loss in goal.
The win gave South Shore sole possession of first in the MHL, two points up on the Mariners.
The teams will meet again at Mariners Centre on Friday.
Yarmouth kept their win streak alive in the Valley on Friday with a 7-0 win over the Wildcats.
Luc Poirier led the way with two goals and an assist, Logan Timmons scored twice, Duncan McKie, Andrew Martell and Matt Smith also scored.
Thompson Phinney made 20 saves for his second shutout of the season.
