The Town of Yarmouth has issued a Request for Proposals related to a new arts and culture centre.
The RFP seeks a concept design along with a feasibility study.
Last month town council approved the location of the facility, which will be on the Collins Street parking lot between First and Second streets.
MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects Limited have been engaged as consultants to assist with the arts centre design.
Mayor Pam Mood says the first step was to assess the downtown property assembly.
“MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects confirmed the feasibility of the site and developed mock-ups based on apparent strengths and opportunities of the three sites originally selected, and they presented to (town) council and the Yarmouth Arts Regional Council.”
Mood says the second phase was to come together to refine the vision of the project.
“So basically they brought the stakeholders together, you know, what is it they saw for the particular site that was chosen. Then they did the mock up of that. We have expressed that this is not a done deal for the project going forward. It’s simply a culmination of everything that people put forward and it was put into one building. So we understand that once we start to dig down and sort things through that certainly it will look different than what was brought forward.”
She says the the next step will be going back to the users.
“Really getting into specifics about uses and needs, building a feasibility analysis and capital budget based on needs and wants.”
Mood says at the end of this phase they will have projections of operating and capital budgets and will know the scope of the project and phasing possibilities.
The deadline for RFP submissions is 2pm Friday November 10th.
