A senior petroleum analyst expects the price of gas to go up at midnight when the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board sets prices.
Dan McTeague with Gas Buddy Dot Com expects the price of gasoline to rise in Nova Scotia by approximately 3.8 cents a litre.
He says it could be a little higher or a little lower because of what he refers to as wiggle room.
“That the NSURB uses, sometime they pick one benchmark over another and that makes things a little awkward. Safe bet, that about a 4 cent a litre increase is coming our way here in Nova Scotia.”
McTeague says while an increase is unwelcome news for consumers here, it’s worse out West.
He says a pipeline disruption in the U-S Midwest is forcing prices up by as much as 17 cents a litre in Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
McTeague says prices on the lower mainland of Vancouver are in the $1.50 a litre range.
The only pipeline from Edmonton, the Trans Mountain, is constrained because it’s highly opposed by environmentalists.
Motorists there are paying $1.45 for gas.
