The liquor store in downtown Yarmouth is closing.
The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation location at 250 Main Street will close its doors for the last time at the end of the day on Friday November 10th.
NSLC spokesperson Beverley Ware says the store would require significant investment to bring it up to an acceptable standard.
“It really would cost too much to bring this store up to standard. We issued an expression of interest to see if there could be another location suitable for a store in the downtown area and we couldn’t find one.
Ware says in the spring of 2018, the NSLC will make an investment to its store on Starrs Road and upgrade it to a signature store.
“These stores offer customers a full product assortment from all categories, so that means it will have a port section that would feature premium wine and spirits along with tasting units. There would also be a cool zone where you’d have the chilled products. We’ll also have a product specialist in that store. That is somebody who has special training and they can help customers explore our products and give them information on those products
She says there will be no job losses when the downtown store closes.
“No, there’ll be no job losses. we have one full-time employee at that store and he has been offered a position at the Starrs Road store which I understand he’ll be taking.”
The downtown store opened about 10 years ago.
