New equipment problems at the Yarmouth Curling Club will delay the start of the season even more.
A new ice compressor was installed, and the Yarmouth Curling Association was prepared to begin making ice.
In a Facebook post, the association says when they started up the ice making system, a leak commenced out of the chiller.
They say the total cost of the repairs could possibly exceed $60,000.
They have established a fundraising committee, and are looking at angles of loans, grants, ticket sales and more.
Past-President Rick Allwright says the entire membership will need to step up.
“We believe we can do it, that’s why we’ve decided to go ahead and make the investment. It will take the entire membership to be able to do this.”
The curling season, already late by a week, will be delayed at least another month to six weeks.
Allwright says eventually, a new facility will be needed, as the club is no longer sustainable at its present location.
He says these repairs would help keep curling alive in Yarmouth short-term.
