Yarmouth Rural RCMP say a 67 year old man died yesterday after attempting to help some other men.
Police received a 911 call at 4:26 p.m. Friday related to a male in distress who had been pulled out of the water at the end of the William Allen Road.
Spokesperson Cpl. Andrew Joyce is with the Nova Scotia RCMP.
“The preliminary investigation indicates that a 67-year-old Yarmouth man was attempting to assist another stranded boat further off the shore. The deceased’s boat encountered some mechanical problems near the shoreline and capsized while he was enroute there.”
Joyce says the victim was transported by EHS to Yarmouth Regional Hospital and later pronounced dead.
He says members of the Lake Vaughn Fire Department were able to rescue the original boaters.
Cpl. Joyce says the men were digging for shellfish at the time.
The investigation is ongoing.
