Nova Scotia’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal is gearing up for winter.
They started in Yarmouth about three weeks ago.
Crews got trucks geared up, chains ready, filled up the salt dome and prepared for the brine.
Spokesman Don Houston says they’re ready.
“Getting trucks prepared, chains geared up, the salt dome has been filled up. We’re getting geared up for the brine for this year. For the last two or three weeks we’ve been at it pretty good.”
Houston says last year they spread 5225 tonnes of salt, 600 tonnes of sand and sprayed 1.5 million litres of brine in Yarmouth County.
The annual budget is $1.45 million.
In Yarmouth County there are 625 kilometres of trunks, routes, and local paved roads.
There are 90 kilometres of 100-series highways and 295 kilometres of gravel roads.
