A new ice compressor will be installed at the Yarmouth Curling Club on Forbes Street.
The Yarmouth Curling Association Board of Directors voted in favour of replacing the main component of the ice plant last night.
The compressor is vital to the future of the club, and is expected to cost over $30,000.
The club had been fixing the existing compressor for a number of years, and Past-President Rick Allwright says it can no longer be used.
“We don’t know what piece of equipment is going to go next. We have a 50 year old building and plant. We’ve been replacing pieces here and there, but we have a very old club.”
Allwright says more helping hands are needed at the club as well.
“We need more people doing more work, and sharing the workload than the handful of people that have been doing it over the last few years.”
Allwright says they will be fundraising to pay for the new equipment, and extra volunteers would be appreciated.
They’ll also be approaching local municipal councils.
Allwright says the installation of the new compressor will delay the start of the season by a week or so.
