The project began this past summer.
That section of the former cotton mill had deteriorated over the years and there were leaks, mold and issues with the electrical system.
Town Councillor Phil Mooney, chair of the Yarmouth Industrial Commission says the work is going well.
“They have engineering meetings every week. We’re working with the people in the building. Hopefully everything’s on track. They’re saying by spring everything will be done and complete. You’ll see the middle section gone so when you drive south on Water Street you’ll see an opening between the old Hurlburt property and NovaTec Braids.”
He says there will probably be something going up on that section eventually.
Mooney says the building got way beyond what the three municipal units could afford to repair.
“In excess of $10 million just to retrofit it and get it up to code.”
The building is owned by the Commission which is comprised of the Town of Yarmouth and the Municipalities of Yarmouth and Argyle.
