The general manager of the Mariners Centre in Yarmouth says, for now, people are still permitted to bring in outside beverages and food.
It’s not the case at a facility in Cape Breton.
Patrons can no longer bring their own food and drink to hockey games and other ticketed events at Sydney’s Centre 200.
Gil Dares of the Mariners Centre says it was a topic of discussion when he got to work this morning.
“It’s not something that we’ve ever contemplated or considered up to this point in time. The way it was presented to be this morning was that they’ve (Centre 200) certainly paved the way for other arenas to follow suit.”
Dares says he understands why Centre 200 made its decision.
“I understand their frustration. we have to deal with huge volumes of disposables like garbage, that are not generated and we also have to staff a canteen.”
He says it’s frustrating when canteen revenues are falling and people are bringing in things that are available at the Mariners Centre for a reasonable cost.
