The Historical Acadian Village in West Pubnico received just uder $45 thousand dollars from the federal government.
The announcement was made yesterday by West Nova MP Colin Fraser who said we honour our roots by investing in places like Le Village historique acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse.
He said “its a place where we can come together and learn about our country’s rich Acadian heritage, reinforcing what it means to be a Canadian.”
Roger d’Entremont, executive director of the Village says the $29,006 contribution through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program will be used to improve accessibility.
He says the facility is a community cultural centre as well as a major tourist attraction.
“We want all people to be able to access our site. By paving this parking lot and providing as well, some automatic-opening doors, this will enable everyone to come and celebrate their culture with us.”
The Acadian Historical Village also invested matching funds for that project.
Funding of $15,960, through ACOA’s Innovative Communities Fund, enabled the construction of a period root cellar to demonstrate how food was preserved in the early 1900s.
d’Entremont says during the three-month summer season, the Acadian Historial Village attracts more than 17,000 visitors.
