A petition will be presented to the provincial government asking that fair and equal access to cancer treatments and medications be created for all Nova Scotians and that radiation treatment be provided at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.
The on-line petition can be found on the Yarmouth Cancer Support Network’s Facebook page.
A paper petition is also being circulated.
The founder, Derek Lesser posted that he’s asking for another meeting with the Liberal Caucus and hopes that will take place in the fall at which time the petition will be presented.
MLA Zach Churchill said Sunday on the Y95 CJLS Weekender that, as an MLA, he wants to see a Linear Accelerator in Yarmouth.
“I think in the broader catchment area, on South Shore and perhaps in the Valley, we could end up providing that service here.”
But he warned about the obstacles.
“Cost is one, but the greater challenge just might be the ability to find the specialists and technicians that would actually be able to service that because we don’t want to build a $40 million facility and have it cost $3.5 million a year to run it.
Churchill says the conversation is not over and the work is not done yet on the issue.
