The town of Shelburne is continuing with a four-phase multi-year project to develop Pine Grove Cemetery.
The town owns the property.
Phase one, which focused on site preparation, was completed in the fall of 2015.
Mayor Karen Mattatall says Pine Grove requires expansion and improvements to enhance the experience when people come to visit their loved ones.
“We have cleared an amount of land on Elliot Street facing the cemetery. We want to create a new gate, the existing one will stay there.”
Mattatall says local blacksmith Jake Roscoe will design and build a new wrought iron gate.
Landscaping, improved parking and a rain garden are also part of the cemetery development which is expected to take two to three years.
“Our cemetery is very beautiful however it requires expansion. We want to an area for people what just may want to sit and be near their loved one.”
