A case involving the alleged mistreatment of a seal onboard a fishing vessel was adjourned again today.
The charges against Mark Allan MacKenzie of Lower Argyle, Jay Alexander Jenkins of Rockville and Brendon Douglas James Porter of East Pubnico relate to a Facebook video that went viral earlier this year.
The men have not yet entered a plea, and will be back in Yarmouth Provincial Court on July 24th.
The video was originally posted by one of the men on board, which created a public backlash on social media.
A man is seen poking and taunting a seal with a buoy, while a male voice can be heard saying ‘let’s kill it.”
The video has since been deleted.
DFO charged the men under Marine Mammal Regulations that state no person shall disturb a marine mammal except when fishing for marine mammals.
They are also facing a charge under Fisheries General Regulations relating to release of incidental catch.
