A cemetery is more than a resting place for the dearly departed.
The headstones tell a story of people and places.
That rich history will be brought alive later this month when Yarmouth’s Mountain Cemetery will host tours.
Student Logan Jamieson has been hired as the guide.
He says while he developed the tours, he walked through the grounds to become familiar with the different areas that he’ll be presenting.
“Really, each stone has its own story. There is a just lot to see and a lot to learn, from the development of the town, you look at some of the old stones, you have to think about that time when they were on horseback, things like that. It’s very interesting and educational”
He says the tours will end inside the Ritchie Chapel which Jamieson says has a history all its own.
The tours of Mountain Cemetery are free.
They begin on June 19 and run Monday to Friday and will conclude on August 25.
The times are 10am, 1pm and 3pm, except Thursday’s when the tour schedule changes to 1pm, 3pm and 6:30pm.
The tours will run for about 75 minutes.
