The warden of the municipality of Barrington says some people have lost respect for their community.
Eddie Nickerson is referring to amount of litter people toss out along roads and highways.
He says it’s gotten to the point that council has decided to rally the community for the first Community Litter Cleanup on Saturday May 27.
Warden Nickerson says littering costs all the taxpayers of the municipality.
“It’s something we would like to get out to the public. We certainly are trying to discourage people from throwing trash out of their windows. We all know those unsightly dumpsites and trash on the side of the road doesn’t enhance our community at all.”
He says everyone can make a difference.
Garbage bags and gloves will be provided in each district.
The municipality’s Property Services team will pick up any garbage collected on that day.
A free BBQ will be held at Island View Park at noon for participants.
