A back deck fire in Yarmouth County this afternoon.
It happened at a residence on the Israel Allen Road in Pembroke.
The Yarmouth Fire Department responded around 3:30.
No one was home at the time.
Platoon Chief Steve Jeffery says neighbours helped extinguish the blaze.
“One of them noticed it and another came over and helped put it out with a fire extinguisher. They certainly helped in keeping the fire away from the house.”
Jeffery says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
He says windows laying on the back deck may have been an ignition source.
