The superintendent of the Tri-County Regional School Board says there are great things happening in schools.
Paul Ash says teachers, administrators and all other staff are the reason.
He says he asked the board when became superintendent if he could go to the schools.
Ash has visited 10 to 12 schools in the past month along with some board members who he says wanted to connect with staff and students.
“The board members themselves were not only supportive of the idea but they actually asked if they themselves could also come along. At every one of the visits that I’ve been at there’s always been at least two or three board members that attended with me.”)
He says one only has to talk a few minutes with teachers to see how dedicated they are.
“I was at a school in Digby last week and a teacher was giving up their prep period to work with a student who was working on a music credit and wasn’t able to do it in their schedule. I was at Plymouth and met a grade 2 teacher who was going above and beyond in terms of taken students out to ponds and collecting tadpoles and talking above the life cycle of frogs. That’s really what’s happening at our schools.”
He says administrators, support staff, cafeteria and janitorial staff all work as a team.
“All of those individuals are all on the same page. everyone comes to work everyday to try to do what’s in the best interest of the students.”
Ash says sometimes teaching can be a thankless profession and he wants to thank them for their commitment and passion.
