If you have some bad driving habits, now might be a good time to break them.
The RCMP in the Tri-Counties will be participating in Canada Road Safety Week.
It runs from tomorrow, May 16, to 22 with National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day on May 20.
Cst. Chad Morrison with the RCMP’s Traffic Safety division says there are a few driving behaviours that are leading causes of fatal accidents.
“We would call them the four causal factors. They would be impaired driving, and that’s impairment by any substance whether it’s alcohol or drugs; distracted riving; aggressive driving and failure to use a seat belt or improper use of a seat belt.”
Cst. Morrison says the RCMP has officers who are specially trained in drug recognition
Motorists are reminded that failure or refusal to participate in any type of sobriety testing may result in criminal charges that have the same penalties as impaired driving.
